Since 1933 Major League baseball introduced a game in the middle of the season
that represents a hand picked sample of some of the best baseball players in the
league. This once-a-year game, called the All-Star Game, is also known as
"The Mid-Summer Classic".
The selection of players has typically been based on fans votes
and managerial selections. While many fans' opinions are strongly
correlated to the actual top-performing player at their given position,
the reality is, the starting All-Star team is more significantly based on
popularity. Managers have typically been defined as the manager of the
winning teams from both the National and American Leagues of the previous season.
